Kick back, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking beaches and spectacularly rugged coastline at The Sea Ranch (pop. 1,305), a tiny, environmentally-planned private community stretching for 10 miles along Highway 1 at the northern end of the Sonoma County coast. It's estimated that about half of the houses in The Sea Ranch are rented out as vacation homes.

 

Overnight accommodations are also available at the Sea Ranch Lodge, which guarantees an ocean view from each of its 19 rooms. Also at the lodge, the Black Point Grill features California cuisine made with fresh local ingredients. Guests at the lodge or in a rented vacation home can use the community's tennis courts, Scottish-style golf course and other amenities. That includes 50 miles of private trails crisscrossing the community, providing panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, massive rocks, migrating whales, amazing sunsets and more.

 

If you aren’t staying overnight, there are public access trails available or visit the 195-acre Gualala Point Regional Park. Or spend a quiet moment in the Sea Ranch Chapel, a whimsical architectural gem that resembles a bird in flight or a cresting wave.
